Thickson's Woods

JM in the forest
Decaying Tree
Fiddle Heads
JM in another part of the forest

Today JM and I went for a walk in Thickson's Woods. It's a beautiful piece of natural forest at the south end of Whitby on Lake Ontario. It is phenomenal to go there in spring and fall because all sorts of warblers and finches rest up there on their way north and then south.
Today I saw a Boston Oriole, Chesnut Sided Warbler Black Throated Blue Warbler,a Blackburnian Warbler, American Redstart, Magnolia Warbler and a Wilson's Warbler. Possibly other ones as well but I already had to pick JM's brain for those!

Wow, what gorgeous woods! And you're a birder, too! I was jumping up and down over spotting a yellow-breasted chat in my back yard last weekend!

Glad you like the in-law's yard. Me too. It's as wonderful and inviting as they are.

AND you're a Nora R. fan, too? Wow, we must be separated at birth. I think the Jewels of the Sun trilogy is my favorite so far, how about you?

BTW, here's my email if you want it:

Ontario looks lovely. I have fallen madly for the little bit of Canada I've visited (Vancouver and surrounds) and am longing to see more and more. Plus Canadians are just so damn COOL!

Hope you have a great week.

P.S.--Yes, the fuzzy pink thing is the mimosa blossom.

Oh, this site works much better - I was just back at your old one trying to comment a bit, but I don't have an idea if the comments got through!
I love the pics you shared, such a beautiful wood - and at least all that rain you had in the last days made the green even greener! Gorgeous!

Really nice photos! It would be neat to see those birds. The other day I saw a Rufous-sided Towhee in my yard and another bird that wasn't even in the book.

Love your new digs. Mind if I take my seat on this comfie couch? (I believe that's a chesterfield for you -- no clue what it is for everyone over the pond)

Speaking of that, why do you call it a chesterfield?
