Havin' a Heat Wave!

Since I learned how to sew at my mother's knee and since I have forgone sewing for knitting for many years I am joining the sew along over at sew i knit.

The item to be made is a top. I have chosen a simple top (it says easy on the pattern) and the fabric . The fabric is a lovely embroidered summer weight cotton blend. Should I get it done on time I will have another cool top to wear this summer.

I will not be putting aside the knitting. No, that I could probably never do. I still have quite a few projects to get started on. I also have several projects still on the go too (surprise, surprise).

Today has been the 2nd day of the southern Ontario heat wave. It was about 30 degrees C today. In the Greater Toronto Area we also have humidexes because of being on Lake Ontario. With the humidex yesterday it was equal to about 45 degrees C. It is so completely oppressive. It is hard to breathe with the heat and humidity but then there is also the pollution index that sky rockets in the city areas so we also get air quality warnings. It was because of the air quality warnings that I finally broke down and agreed to have central air in our house. I didn't put it on last night but you can bet it is on now. Poor Kessie yesterday! She was experiencing her very first heat wave and I don't think she liked it at all. She is much happier with the AC on. Well, the whole family is happier with it on. We all may actually sleep through the whole night tonight!

I am going to have some ice cream now!!

Sunday Pictures

My Irises bloomed today!

Poor Kessie! She got left in the backyard!

Stash socks modeled by a 12 year old boy.

Yes, stash socks. It's how I use up all my leftover sock yarns.

Heck, my children rarely wear matching socks anyways!

Out my Windows

Jen started a meme asking us to show what we see out our windows. So I am playing with her!
Here is the view from my back window looking south/east.
Here is the view from the same window looking south/west.

This is the view I see out the front of my house looking north.

The first picture is a picture I took earlier in the spring when the tree across the street was in bloom This second picture is the view from the chair I sit in while at the computer.
As you can see it is a lovely sunny day here today.

Why am I sitting here inside?

I'm heading out to the garden to take more pictures and maybe, just maybe sit and sknit!

You know it's time...

You know it's time for a boob reduction when the only body feature that children you teach remember is the huge rack!
A true story.....The other day a parent came up to me and told me she had a story to tell me. She had told the tale to another teacher who knows me fairly well and was encouraged to relate it to me. Well, it seems this Mom (thank God it was a Mom not a Dad) was out shopping with her 3 year old and while they were lined up at a check out her sweetie said to her, "There is Miss Martina." Her Mom looked around and did not see me. "Where?" she asked. "Mom, she's standing right beside you!" Still the Mom cannot see me. " MOM She is right beside you!!!" Mom looked at the person beside her and sure enough it WAS NOT me. She told her daughter so. Her daughter's response....."Well, she has big boobs!" When she was asked if the face looked like Miss Martina she said "Well...no."
Kids....they pull no punches.

My love sweater

I was wearing this sweater today and realized that I have never shown it to the blogging world.
I knit this a couple of years ago and I still love it. It is in washable wool so I can just toss it in the washing machine.
I absolutely fell in love with the cable design when I saw the pattern. I absolutely love the non-traditional colour that I knit it in. I absolutely love the oversized swing a-line shape that it is which is also a non-traditional shape for a cable sweater.
It is my love sweater!

Sleepy Kessie

As I was down loading a few pictures off the camera I came across these two pictures that someone took today!
She is just the cutest thing!

Soccer Mom

Tonight was the first game of my son's soccer season! They won! Not that that is what is important! Last year his team won one game all summer so this year can't get any worse. That makes PT happy.
My handsome PT on the left with his best pal.

Thickson's Woods

JM in the forest
Decaying Tree
Fiddle Heads
JM in another part of the forest

Today JM and I went for a walk in Thickson's Woods. It's a beautiful piece of natural forest at the south end of Whitby on Lake Ontario. It is phenomenal to go there in spring and fall because all sorts of warblers and finches rest up there on their way north and then south.
Today I saw a Boston Oriole, Chesnut Sided Warbler Black Throated Blue Warbler,a Blackburnian Warbler, American Redstart, Magnolia Warbler and a Wilson's Warbler. Possibly other ones as well but I already had to pick JM's brain for those!

Moving in Progress

To those of you I am sending here,
My site on blogdrive is not available today. Actually blogdrive is just down today. I have been working on moving my site to blogspot so this seems like as good a time as any to get it up and going! Please bear with me while I change over!
